Lee Hub - Independent Community Library, awarded £10,000 grant by Hampshire County Council.
Councillor Heron said
"Lee Hub's grant application demonstrated a thorough insight into the community requirements of Lee-on-the-Solent. The plans for a community library; health and wellbeing activity space for classes; a community café for a place to meet and enjoy social activities will bring the community together meeting the Lee Hub Trustees stated outcomes".
Councillor Edward Heron. Executive Member for Recreation, Heritage, Countryside and Rural Affairs
Christine McGrew, Chair of Lee Hub Trustees said:
"This £10,000 grant secures vital funding to support our year one set up costs and we are grateful to Hampshire County Council for awarding us this money.
I would also like to pay particular thanks to the original project team, and Paul Twine project manager in particular, for their commitment and enthusiasm for this project and preparatory work in consulting with the local community and completing the grant application documents .
Lee-on-the-Solent residents recognise the wider benefits a community library brings; their support, commitment and generosity to establish Lee Hub reflects how important it is to them.
The Lee Hub will be a place for lovers of books, literacy and those seeking knowledge; a place to socialise over a tea or coffee in the community café; a community space where a programme of activities for health and wellbeing will be on offer. We look forward to welcoming young and old to this community asset."
Christine McGrew, Chair of Trustees, Lee Hub - Independent Community Library
Councillor Graham Burgess said:
"This grant funding to Lee Hub endorses the hard work undertaken by a small group of residents who formed a project, developed a business plan, completed an expression of interest and submitted this grant application. These took account of the communities feedback and local needs. The £10,000 is a vital grant to make Lee Hub a reality."
Councillor Graham Burgess, Gosport Lee East & Hampshire County Councillor Lee Division
